About Warforged Names
Warforged names trace a journey from object to person. In D&D's Eberron setting, warforged were built as weapons — living constructs mass-produced for the Last War. Their original designations were military serial numbers and unit codes: things like 'Unit 7,' 'Titan-3,' or 'Scout Model IV.' These were labels, not names, assigned by creators who saw them as tools.
As warforged developed sentience and the war ended, many began choosing their own names — a profound act of self-determination. Some adopted names given by comrades-in-arms: 'Bulwark,' 'Cutter,' 'Pierce.' Others chose names that expressed their emerging identity: 'Book' for one who loved reading, 'Anchor' for one seeking stability. Still others took humanoid names, trying to fit into a world that was not built for them.
The naming of a warforged is inherently a story about identity, freedom, and what it means to be a person. A warforged character's name choice — whether it is a cold designation, a soldier's nickname, or a hopeful humanoid name — immediately tells you where they are on that journey from weapon to individual.
