About Goliath Names
Goliath names are a three-part declaration of identity, and every part is earned rather than inherited in the traditional sense. In D&D, goliaths live in harsh mountain environments where survival demands cooperation and merit, and their naming system reflects that ruthless practicality.
Every goliath carries a birth name assigned by the mother or father, a nickname assigned by the tribal chief, and a clan name. The nickname is the most important — it is a living descriptor that changes whenever the goliath accomplishes (or fails at) something notable. A goliath called 'Steadyhand' after a great climb might become 'Twicefallen' after a humiliating defeat. This system means goliaths are never allowed to rest on past glory.
Goliath birth names are short and gender-neutral, with a slightly Slavic or Central Asian flavor. Clan names reference geography — always beginning with a core element tied to the mountain landscape. The entire naming system reinforces goliath culture: achievement matters more than bloodline, today matters more than yesterday, and the tribe matters more than the individual.
